Hyperhidrosis is a condition more commonly known as excessive sweating. It is estimated that excessive sweating affects 3% of the U.S. population today. The condition usually begins with sweating from the palms and feet in late childhood and then develops into underarm sweating later in adolesence. This can be great cause for embarrassment and if left untreated, can continue indefinately. Some physical problems may also arise including making it hard to hold a pen, grip a steering wheel or shake hands.
Often the cause of excessive sweating may be a number of things. It can be related to systemic diseases but this is not common. It may also be brought on by heat or particular emotions such as stress, often however there is no apparent 'reason' for sweating in sufferers of hyperhidrosis.
There are a number of things to consider before undergoing any treatment for sweating problems, like how serious the condition is. The following is a list of common medical treatment:
- Over-the-counter Antiperspirants - aluminum chloride is found to be an effective ingredient.
- Prescription Antiperspirants - These contain Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate
- Anticholinergenics - An oral medication that reduces sweating
- Botox
- Surgical Procedures
Aluminum is a chemical which can be toxic in high amounts or when deposited in the brain. Aluminum in antiperspirant deodorants is readily deposited into the brain via the nasal passages. Aluminum has been linked to many different conditions such as:
- Alzheimer's Disease
- Osteoporosis
- Colic
- Anxiety
- Rickets
- Decreased Organ Function
- Speech Problems
- Memory Loss
- Poor Coordination
- Dizziness
Although aluminum is a chemical that is not widely regarded as being dangerous, there is no question that it can accumulate in the brain to produce many toxic side-effects. It should be avoided whenever possible.
A recent e-publication which has been found to be extremely useful to many sufferers of hyperhidrosis is Mike
